Women in construction
As 2022 is coming to a close, we want to reflect on the placements we’ve made this year and how they impact diversity in the construction industry
It’s part of our mission to increase the number of women in the construction industry, and 33% of our placements into the construction industry this year have been women. In the UK, women only comprise 13% of the construction industry. Many women leave the sector after 3-5 years, not always to start a family which is the stereotype most believed, but because there is often a lack of support to further their careers.
Looking into the industry in more depth, there are low numbers of women in senior positions, and men are given promotions more often. The foundations for STEM careers need to be laid early in education and encouraged throughout – so that they know they’re more than capable of entering the industry.
